MetaMask review for Saudi users

MetaMask is not a general crypto wallet; it is the front door to Ethereum and every EVM-compatible chain. If you touch Ethereum apps, hold ERC-20 tokens or want cheap USDT on BNB Chain, it is the standard tool. If you just want to store Bitcoin, it is the wrong one.

Ask anyone who has used an Ethereum app and they will have MetaMask installed, as a browser extension on a laptop or as an app on the phone. It is the wallet most decentralised apps are built to talk to, it supports Ethereum plus every EVM chainEVM chainA blockchain compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine, so the same wallets, addresses and apps work on it: BNB Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum and others. you are likely to meet, and it is self-custody: the keys stay on your device. For Saudi users the practical draws are two: cheap USDT transfers on BNB Chain, and the ability to pair with a Ledger so your cold storage gets a usable interface.

The practical warnings are also two. MetaMask holds no native Bitcoin and cannot receive TRC-20 USDT, the network most Saudi P2P sellers use. And its openness to websites is exactly what phishing sites exploit. We checked the Saudi App Store listing and MetaMask's own pages in October 2026; here is what matters from the Kingdom.

Who MetaMask suits in Saudi Arabia

It suits the person who already holds or wants Ethereum and ERC-20 tokens, the person who uses decentralised exchanges, NFT platforms or on-chain savings products, and the person moving USDT on BNB Chain between exchanges and a personal wallet at a fraction of Ethereum's cost. It also suits the Ledger owner who wants a desktop interface for signing without trusting the browser with the keys.

It does not suit a beginner whose only goal is to hold Bitcoin bought on CEX.IO or Binance; Trust Wallet covers Bitcoin, Tron and the EVM chains in one app with less to configure. Nor does it suit anyone who finds the idea of reading a signature request before approving it tedious. MetaMask assumes you will.

Saudi App Store availability and Arabic

MetaMask is on the Saudi App Store and Google Play, and the extension installs from the Chrome, Firefox, Brave and Edge stores. As a self-custody app it has no supported-countries list and no KYCKYCKnow-your-customer identity verification: ID and selfie checks that exchanges require. Self-custody wallets do not perform KYC.; nothing about living in Saudi Arabia limits it. Legally, holding crypto in a wallet is not prohibited for individuals here, but it is unregulated: no Saudi authority licenses wallets or exchanges, and the 2018 Standing Committee statement from SAMA, the CMA and the Ministry of Finance says virtual currencies are not approved and nobody is licensed. Our legal guide has the detail.

The App Store languages field shows English only. MetaMask may offer Arabic in its in-app settings, but we could not confirm that from its own pages, so check after installing. Its documentation and support are in English.

Ethereum and the EVM chains

MetaMask creates one Secret Recovery Phrase of 12 words, and from it derives accounts that work identically on Ethereum mainnet, BNB Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, Avalanche and any other EVM network you add. Your address is the same string on every one of them, which is both convenient and a classic trap: an address on BNB Chain and the same address on Ethereum are different balances, and sending USDT to "your MetaMask address" means nothing until you say on which network.

What MetaMask does not do matters as much. There is no native Bitcoin, Litecoin, XRP or Tron. The "Bitcoin" you can hold is a wrapped token issued on an EVM chain by a third party, which is a claim on BTC rather than BTC itself. And because Tron is not an EVM chain, MetaMask cannot receive TRC-20 USDT, the network behind most Saudi P2P transfers. If a seller or an exchange withdrawal screen only offers TRC-20, use Trust Wallet for that leg.

Gas fees, and BNB Chain for cheap USDT

Every transaction on an EVM chain costs a gas feeGas feeThe network fee paid to validators to process a transaction. On Ethereum it rises sharply when the network is busy; on BNB Chain or Polygon it is usually a few cents., paid in that chain's native coin: ETH on Ethereum, BNB on BNB Chain, POL on Polygon. Two consequences catch newcomers. First, you cannot send USDT on BNB Chain from an empty wallet; you need a sliver of BNB first, so withdraw a small amount of the native coin along with your tokens. Second, Ethereum mainnet gas is volatile: a USDT transfer that costs the equivalent of a few riyals at a quiet hour can cost many times that when the network is busy, and the fee is the same whether you send 50 USDT or 50,000.

That is why BNB Chain is the default for Saudi users moving USDT through MetaMask. Binance, Bybit, OKX and Bitget all support withdrawals on BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20), the fee is a small fraction of Ethereum's, and the token arrives in the same MetaMask account once you have the network enabled. Polygon and Arbitrum are similar. Keep ERC-20 for when a counterparty insists on Ethereum.

  1. Enable BNB Chain in MetaMask

Open the network selector and add BNB Smart Chain from the built-in list. Your address stays the same.

  2. Withdraw a little BNB first

From your exchange, send a small amount of BNB on BNB Smart Chain so the wallet can pay gas.

  3. Add the USDT token on BNB Chain

Import the token so the balance shows; MetaMask may detect it automatically.

  4. Withdraw USDT on BEP-20

On the exchange withdrawal screen choose BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20), paste your MetaMask address, send a small test, then the rest.

Approvals, signatures and phishing

MetaMask's defining feature is that websites can ask it to do things, and the defining risk is that you say yes. The common request is a token approvalToken approvalA permission you grant a smart contract to spend a specific token from your wallet, often for an unlimited amount. Needed for swaps; dangerous when granted to a malicious site.: a decentralised exchange needs permission to move your USDT before it can swap it. Legitimate apps ask for this. So do phishing sites, which dress the request up as "claim your airdrop", "validate your wallet", "connect to mainnet" or "rectify a pending transaction". An unlimited approval to a malicious contract lets it drain that token whenever it likes, possibly weeks later.

The defence is boring. Read every MetaMask pop-up before confirming. If it says "spending cap" or "approve", ask why that site needs it and set a cap equal to the amount you are using. Treat any site that reached you through a message, an ad or a reply on X as hostile. Never type your Secret Recovery Phrase into a website, a form or a "support" chat; MetaMask itself never asks for it. Review and revoke old approvals periodically. If a wallet has been drained once, assume its seed is known and start a fresh one. Our scams guide has the Saudi-targeted variants, including fake "compliance officer" calls in Arabic.

Pairing MetaMask with a Ledger

The best way to use MetaMask with real money is to let it not hold the keys at all. The extension can connect a Ledger hardware wallet: MetaMask shows balances, builds transactions and talks to websites, while the Ledger signs each transaction on its own screen, offline. A phishing site can then still ask for an approval, but you see what you are signing on the device, and malware in the browser cannot sign anything by itself.

For Saudi users this matters because the hardware is buyable locally: Jarir sells the Ledger Nano X at SAR 669 including VAT with a 12-month warranty. Pair it through the extension on a computer, use the same MetaMask for BNB Chain and Ethereum, and keep a separate software-only account for small, everyday amounts. Tangem cards use their own app rather than MetaMask pairing, so if MetaMask is your main interface, Ledger is the natural hardware match.

Setting up from Saudi Arabia, step by step

  1. Install from metamask.io

Browser extension on a computer, or the app from the Saudi App Store or Google Play via the official links. Verify the developer name.

  2. Create a wallet and write the 12 words

MetaMask calls it the Secret Recovery Phrase. Paper, in order, two copies, two places; never a screenshot or a cloud note.

  3. Set a strong password for the app or extension

This unlocks the interface on that device only; the words are the real backup.

  4. Add BNB Chain and any other networks you use

Ethereum is on by default. Add BNB Smart Chain for cheap USDT; add Polygon or Arbitrum if an app needs them.

  5. Fund with a little native coin, then a test transfer

A small amount of BNB or ETH for gas, then a small USDT test on the matching network before the rest.

  6. Pair a Ledger once the balance matters

Connect the device through the extension and keep savings in the hardware account.

What stands out
  • On the Saudi App Store, Google Play and all major browser extension stores; no country list or KYC
  • Ethereum plus BNB Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum and other EVM networks from one 12-word phrase
  • BNB Chain (BEP-20) USDT withdrawals from Binance, Bybit, OKX and Bitget arrive for a few cents of gas
  • Pairs with a Ledger so the extension signs through hardware; Nano X available at Jarir for SAR 669
  • The widest compatibility with decentralised apps, so it is the wallet most sites are built around
What is missing
  • No native Bitcoin, Litecoin, XRP or Tron; cannot receive TRC-20 USDT, the Saudi P2P default
  • Ethereum mainnet gas fees are volatile and the same whether you send 50 or 50,000 USDT
  • Arabic not listed in Saudi App Store metadata; documentation and support in English
  • Token-approval and signature phishing drains careless users; every pop-up must be read
  • Needs a sliver of native coin (BNB, ETH) before it can move tokens, which confuses first-timers

Verdict

7.8/10
Our score: The right tool for Ethereum and BNB Chain, the wrong one for a Bitcoin saver

Indispensable if you use Ethereum apps or want cheap USDT on BNB Chain, and excellent paired with a Ledger from Jarir. It loses marks for what it cannot hold (Bitcoin, Tron), for gas on mainnet, for unconfirmed Arabic, and for an approval model that punishes inattention. Beginners should start with Trust Wallet and add MetaMask when an app asks for it.

Start by buying ETH or USDT with a card or Apple Pay, withdraw a test amount on BNB Chain to MetaMask, then move the rest. Our wallet guide compares all six options for Saudi users.

Frequently asked questions

Is MetaMask available in Saudi Arabia?

Yes. MetaMask is listed on the Saudi App Store (app ID 1438144202), on Google Play, and as a browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, Brave and Edge. It is a self-custody wallet, so there is no country list and no identity check; you install it and it works. The App Store languages field shows English only.

Can I hold Bitcoin in MetaMask?

Not natively. MetaMask is built for Ethereum and EVM-compatible chains such as BNB Chain, Polygon and Arbitrum. You can hold wrapped or bridged Bitcoin tokens on those chains, but that is a token issued by a third party, not Bitcoin on its own network. For real BTC use Trust Wallet, Exodus or a Ledger.

Which network is cheapest for USDT in MetaMask?

BNB Chain (BEP-20) is usually the cheapest EVM network for USDT and is supported by every exchange that serves Saudi users; Polygon and Arbitrum are also cheap. Ethereum mainnet (ERC-20) costs the most in gas. MetaMask cannot receive TRC-20 USDT because Tron is not an EVM chain.

What is a gas fee and why does it change?

A gas fee is what you pay the network's validators to process a transaction. On Ethereum it rises and falls with demand, so the same transfer can cost a few riyals at a quiet hour and many times more during a busy one. You pay gas in the chain's native coin: ETH on Ethereum, BNB on BNB Chain, so keep a small balance of it.

Can MetaMask work with a Ledger?

Yes. The MetaMask extension can connect a Ledger (and other hardware wallets) so that the extension shows balances and prepares transactions while the Ledger signs them offline. That turns MetaMask into a window onto your cold storage. The pairing is done through the extension on a computer; mobile support varies by device.

Why did my tokens disappear after I visited a website?

Most likely you signed a token approval or a permit signature that allowed a contract to spend your tokens, and the site drained them later. This is phishing, not a MetaMask bug. Revoke approvals you do not recognise, move remaining funds to a fresh wallet, and treat the seed of the old one as compromised if you ever typed it anywhere.
