A Saudi resident can buy SOL three ways: with a Saudi Visa, Mastercard or Apple Pay on CEX.IO (SOL/USD and SOL/USDC, charged in dollars); through the SAR P2PP2PPeer-to-peer: you buy from another person on the exchange and the platform holds the coins in escrow until the seller confirms your bank, stc pay or urpay payment. market on Binance, Bybit or OKX followed by a swap; or on Rain, the Bahrain-licensed platform that lists SOL but does not document riyal support on its own pages. None of these is licensed in Saudi Arabia, because no crypto platform is.
What Solana is, without the jargon
Solana is a smart-contract blockchain, like Ethereum, built to process thousands of transactions per second. SOL is the coin that pays for those transactions and that validators lock up to run the network. For an ordinary user the practical difference from Ethereum is cost: moving a token on Solana costs a tiny fraction of a riyal, and confirmation is close to instant. That is why the two big dollar stablecoinsStablecoinA token designed to stay worth one US dollar. USDC is issued by Circle, USDT by Tether; both exist on Solana as official issuances., USDC and USDT, are both issued natively on Solana. Tether's own list of supported networks names Solana alongside Ethereum, Tron and TON.
Solana is also where most of the retail speculation of the last few years happened. Launchpads such as Pump.fun let anyone create a token in minutes, and thousands are created every day. Most go to zero within hours. Keep those two facts side by side: the same network that is genuinely useful for cheap dollar transfers is also the busiest venue for coins that exist only to be flipped.
Why Solana matters to someone in Saudi Arabia
The riyal is pegged at 3.75 to the dollar, so a dollar stablecoin behaves like a digital riyal-equivalent. Most SAR P2P trades settle in USDT, and the question that follows is always the same: which network should the USDT travel on? The USDT guide explains why TRC-20 on Tron became the default. Solana is the main challenger: transfers are cheaper and faster, USDC on Solana is widely supported by wallets and exchanges, and a growing number of overseas recipients, especially in markets where Phantom is popular, prefer it.
Concretely, this is what a Solana wallet gives a resident of Riyadh or Jeddah:
- A cheap stablecoin rail. Sending USDC or USDT on Solana between your own exchange account and your own wallet, or to a family member who holds Phantom, costs far less than an ERC-20 transfer and is typically cheaper than TRC-20 too. Exchange withdrawal fees are set by each exchange, not by the network, so compare the withdrawal screen before choosing.
- An on-ramp for USDC specifically. CEX.IO lists SOL against USDC, and USDC is the stablecoin with the clearest issuer story, which some Saudi readers prefer over USDT.
- Access to Solana apps. Exchanges, lending protocols and NFT markets live on Solana. Most of them are high-risk and none is regulated anywhere near the Gulf; treat them as experiments, not savings.
What Solana does not give you is a way around the banking reality. Your Saudi bank still has to approve the card payment or the P2P transfer, and SAMA-supervised banks do not offer crypto services themselves. The network is cheap once your money is on it; getting it on is the part that costs.

Create an accountBuying SOL with a Saudi card, step by step
- Register and verify
Create the CEX.IO account, switch on two-factor authentication, upload a passport or national ID and complete the selfie check. Expats should keep the passport handy because accepted documents depend on country of residence.
- Add a Saudi card or Apple Pay
Visa or Mastercard in your own name. If a mada-only debit card is declined, Apple Pay with the same card often goes through on a different authorisation path.
- Instant Buy SOL
Pick SOL, enter the amount in USD (minimum 20), review the price and the service commission on the confirmation screen, confirm.
- Withdraw on the Solana network
Paste your Phantom address, choose the Solana network, send a small test first. SOL addresses need no memo or tag.
- Back up the seed phrase offline
Write the 12 words on paper, never in a screenshot or a notes app. Anyone with the words owns the wallet; no one can restore it for you.
Phantom, withdrawals and the small print
Phantom is the wallet most Solana users carry, and "Phantom: Trading Wallet" is listed on the Saudi App Store. Its metadata lists English only, so expect no Arabic interface. It is self-custodySelf-custodyYou hold the private keys (the seed phrase) yourself. No company can freeze, recover or reset the wallet; the flip side is that losing the phrase loses the coins.: write down the seed phraseSeed phraseThe 12 or 24 words that recreate your wallet. Anyone who has them controls your coins; no support team will ever ask for them. on paper before you move anything into it. Trust Wallet and Exodus, also on the Saudi App Store, support Solana as well, and Ledger hardware wallets, sold at Jarir for SAR 669 including VAT, can hold SOL for long-term storage.
Two Solana-specific details. First, a wallet needs a sliver of SOL to pay transaction fees, so if you only ever hold USDC on Solana, keep a few riyals' worth of SOL alongside it or your transfers will fail. Second, creating a new token account inside a wallet locks a small SOL deposit (called rent) which is released if you close the account later; it is pennies, but it surprises people who try to move everything out at once.
The memecoin casino, and the fake Saudi coin
In February 2025 a token calling itself the "Official Saudi Arabia Memecoin (KSA)" appeared on Pump.fun, the Solana launchpad. It was created on 10 February and promoted on 17 February through the hijacked X account of the Saudi Law Conference, with posts impersonating the Crown Prince. The conference disavowed it within hours, and the token's market value collapsed to roughly USD 7,500. It followed a pattern already seen in Argentina and elsewhere: borrow a national symbol, pump, dump.
Take three lessons from it. There is no official Saudi cryptocurrency, and SAMA's digital-currency work is wholesale only (Project Aber with the UAE, and membership of the BIS mBridge platform since June 2024); our Saudi coin page covers the history, including the 2019 Ministry of Finance warning about "CryptoRiyal". A verified-looking account can be hacked, so a post is not proof. And a token created on a launchpad has no team, no audit and usually no liquidity beyond what the creator seeded; the only way to make money is for someone else to buy later, which is why many scholars put memecoin trading in the gambling category. Our halal guide lays out that reasoning.
- USDC and USDT issued natively on Solana; transfers cost a fraction of a riyal
- SOL/USD and SOL/USDC on CEX.IO with a Saudi card or Apple Pay
- SOL tab on Binance SAR P2P plus SOL/USDT spot on Bybit and OKX
- Phantom, Trust Wallet and Exodus all on the Saudi App Store
- Rain lists SOL under a Central Bank of Bahrain licence
- No Arabic interface documented for Phantom
- Riyal P2P advertisers for SOL are thin; most buyers go via USDT
- A little SOL is always needed for fees; wrong-network stablecoin sends are unrecoverable
- Pump.fun-style launchpads host thousands of worthless tokens a day, including the fake KSA coin
- No Solana platform or wallet holds a Saudi licence; price swings of 10%+ in a day are normal
Risks, staking and the honest sentence
SOL is a large-cap coin that still moves like a small one. Its price has repeatedly halved and more in a few months, and the network has had outages in past years. If you buy on a Saudi card, the bank will not reverse the purchase because the price fell. Staking SOL to earn validation rewards is possible from Phantom and from exchanges; variable rewards for securing the network are the form most permissive scholars accept, while fixed-rate "earn" products on exchanges draw more objections. Mufti Faraz Adam and others have framed staking as permissible in principle only if everything around it is permissible, judged coin by coin; that is a map of the debate, not a ruling.
The legal frame is the same as for every coin on this site. Crypto is not prohibited for individuals in Saudi Arabia, but it is unregulated: no exchange holds a Saudi licence, and SAMA-supervised banks and apps offer no crypto services. CEX.IO has run since 2013 and its US and UK group companies hold FinCEN MSB registration (NMLS 1804170) and an FCA cryptoasset registration (1007192); the entity that serves Saudi residents, CEX OVRS LLC in Nevis, names no regulator. Keep on any exchange only what you are trading, withdraw the rest to a wallet you control, and read the scams guide before you join any Solana "alpha" group on Telegram.
Frequently asked questions
How do I buy Solana (SOL) with a Saudi bank card?
Open a CEX.IO account, verify your ID, add a Saudi Visa, Mastercard or Apple Pay and use Instant Buy on the SOL/USD market. You are charged in US dollars; your bank converts from riyals and usually adds a 2–3% foreign-transaction mark-up on top of the platform fee range of 0.49%–4.99% plus a service charge. Minimum 20 USD.
Can I buy SOL with riyals on Binance P2P?
Binance's SAR P2P page shows a SOL tab alongside USDT, BTC, ETH and others, but how many riyal advertisers actually post SOL offers varies and is often thin. The reliable pattern is to buy USDT with a bank transfer, stc pay or urpay on P2P, then swap USDT for SOL on the spot market.
Is Phantom wallet available in Saudi Arabia?
Yes. "Phantom: Trading Wallet" is listed on the Saudi App Store. Its App Store metadata lists English only; in-app Arabic is not documented. It is a self-custody wallet, so your seed phrase is the only backup and no company can reset it.
What is the difference between USDC on Solana and USDT on Tron?
Both are dollar stablecoins, but they travel on different networks. USDT on Tron (TRC-20) is the rail most SAR P2P sellers use. USDC and USDT on Solana are cheaper and faster still, but the person or exchange receiving them must support the Solana network. Sending a Solana-network token to a Tron address, or the reverse, loses the funds.
Is Solana halal?
Scholars have not issued a widely cited ruling on SOL itself. Those who permit crypto apply the usual conditions: real utility, spot purchase, no leverage, no interest-bearing products. Staking SOL is debated along the same lines as Ethereum staking: variable rewards for validation work are treated as permissible by many scholars, while fixed-yield "earn" products attract objections. Meme-coin trading on Solana is where most scholars see gambling-like behaviour.
What was the fake Saudi memecoin on Solana?
A token calling itself the "Official Saudi Arabia Memecoin (KSA)" was created on Pump.fun on 10 February 2025 and promoted on 17 February through a hijacked X account of the Saudi Law Conference, impersonating the Crown Prince. The conference disavowed it and its market value collapsed to a few thousand dollars. There is no official Saudi cryptocurrency.
