Top cryptocurrencies in Saudi Arabia

Fifteen coins ranked by one question: how easily can someone in Riyadh, Jeddah or Dammam actually buy and hold them? Live prices in riyals, a short profile of each, and the names you should not buy at all.

Most "top crypto" lists are the global market-cap table with a flag added. That table tells a Saudi reader nothing about whether a coin can be bought with a Saudi card, whether anyone sells it for riyals on a P2PP2PPeer-to-peer: you buy from another user and pay them in riyals through your bank app or STC Pay, while the exchange holds the coins in escrow until the seller confirms. market, or whether the version on sale is even the real coin. So we ranked the fifteen coins differently: by availability from inside the Kingdom first, popularity second, and caveats as a penalty. The result still starts with the big names, but the order and the notes are Saudi-specific.

Before the table, one legal line that applies to every coin below: crypto is not prohibited for individuals in Saudi Arabia, but it is unregulated, no exchange holds a Saudi licence, and the 2018 Standing Committee statement (CMA, SAMA, Ministry of Finance and others) still warns that virtual currencies are not approved and nobody is licensed to trade them. Our legal guide has the full text; the point here is that nothing in a ranking changes that status.

The ranking table

Fifteen coins ranked for Saudi residents. "SAR P2P tab" means the asset appeared as a riyal tab on Binance P2P when we checked; "Card" means CEX.IO lists it for Visa, Mastercard or Apple Pay purchases in US dollars.

How we rank

Five signals, equal weight. First, availability: the coin must be listed on CEX.IO (the card route most Saudi beginners use) and on at least two of Binance, Bybit, OKX and KuCoin. Second, a riyal P2P tab on Binance, because that is where riyals actually meet crypto. Third, the CoinGecko market-cap rank as a proxy for global depth. Fourth, Saudi relevance: remittance use, Arabic search interest, a halal narrative worth explaining. Fifth, a penalty for caveats such as a coin being sold as an IOUIOULiterally 'I owe you': an exchange credit that tracks a coin's price but cannot be withdrawn to the coin's own blockchain until the exchange enables it., being gated by project-side KYC, or attracting scams.

That is why USDT outranks Bitcoin here even though Bitcoin is forty times larger. For a person moving riyals, USDT is the first thing they buy and the thing they sell back; Bitcoin is what they hold. It is also why Pi sits at ten despite a market rank near 80: the interest is real, the availability is partial. We re-check the listing data each month; prices on this page are live from CoinGecko in SAR and are never typed by hand.

The 15 coins, one by one

1. Tether (USDT)

A stablecoinStablecoinA token designed to stay worth one dollar (or another currency), usually backed by reserves held by the issuer. pegged to the US dollar. Because the riyal itself has been fixed at 3.75 per dollar since 1986, USDT behaves like a digital riyal-equivalent, and it is the default tab on Binance's SAR P2P market. Sellers price it slightly above 3.75; that small premium is the real cost of entering crypto with riyals. The practical trap is networks: Tether issues USDT on Tron, Ethereum, Solana, TON and others, and sending to the wrong one loses the coins. Our USDT guide covers the peg, the premium and the networks.

2. Bitcoin (BTC)

The first and largest cryptocurrency, with a supply capped at 21 million and new issuance cut in half roughly every four years. In Saudi Arabia it is mainly a long-term holding rather than a payment tool, and it is the coin that sparks the sharpest Sharia debate: Sheikh Abdullah Al-Manea of the Council of Senior Scholars called it a form of usury and gambling in 2018, while scholars such as Mufti Faraz Adam treat it as permissible property. Listed everywhere, including Rain and CoinMENA. How to buy Bitcoin in Saudi Arabia walks through the three routes step by step.

3. Ethereum (ETH)

The main smart-contract network. ETH pays the gasGas feeThe network fee paid to process a transaction on a blockchain; on Ethereum it rises sharply when the network is busy. for every transaction, including ERC-20 USDT transfers, which is why moving tokens on Ethereum is the most expensive option on this list. It has a SAR P2P tab, a CEX.IO listing and a place on Rain's 2019 Sharia certificate. The open question for Muslim holders is staking: variable rewards for validating the network are widely accepted, fixed-yield "earn" products look like riba to most scholars. Ethereum guide.

4. XRP

The token of the XRP Ledger, designed for bank-grade cross-border settlement. For a country where expatriates sent SAR 125.2 billion home in the first nine months of 2025, the remittance story resonates, even though no Saudi bank uses XRP for that today. It is on CEX.IO and Rain, but XRP was not among the visible SAR P2P tabs when we checked, so most riyal buyers go USDT first and swap. Always include the destination tagMemo / tagAn extra code some coins (XRP, TON) require so the receiving exchange knows which account to credit. when sending XRP to an exchange. XRP guide.

5. BNB

Binance's own token. Holding it earns a discount on Binance trading fees and pays gas on BNB Smart Chain, which matters because Binance runs the largest SAR P2P venue and many Saudis never leave that ecosystem. CEX.IO lists BNB against USD and USDC, and the SAR P2P tab exists. Note that the "BEP-20 USDT" you see on BNB Smart Chain is a Binance-pegged token, not an official Tether issuance. BNB guide.

6. Solana (SOL)

A high-throughput chain where USDC and USDT transfers cost very little, which makes it a favourite for moving stablecoins between wallets. It is listed on CEX.IO and Rain and has a SAR P2P tab. Solana is also home to Pump.fun, the meme-coin launchpad where the fake "Official Saudi Arabia Memecoin" appeared in February 2025, so treat any Saudi-themed token there as a scam by default. Solana guide.

7. Tron (TRX)

Few Saudis buy TRX to hold it; they buy it because Tron is the chain behind TRC-20 USDT, the cheapest widely used rail for P2P settlements and remittances. A small TRX balance covers the network's "energy and bandwidth" fees when you send USDT from your own wallet. CEX.IO lists TRX in five pairs, and the SAR P2P tab exists. Tron guide.

8. USD Coin (USDC)

Circle's dollar stablecoin, the second stablecoin on SAR P2P and the one CEX.IO uses, alongside USD, to price many of its markets. Expect far fewer riyal sellers than for USDT. USDC lives on Ethereum, Solana, Base and other networks; as with Tether, the network you pick when withdrawing must match the wallet you send to. Sharia-wise it is judged like USDT: a currency-like token, acceptable to many screeners for spot trading, with no yield products attached.

9. Dogecoin (DOGE)

The original meme coin from 2013: inflationary supply, cheap transfers, and a price that still jumps on Elon Musk posts. It has the highest meme-coin awareness in Arabic search ("دوجكوين"), a dedicated buy page on CEX.IO and a SAR P2P tab. Islamic Finance Guru's Mufti Faraz Adam calls meme coins "highly problematic" for lacking utility while stopping short of haram; that caveat applies to SHIB and PEPE too. Dogecoin guide.

10. Pi Coin (PI)

A mobile-"mined" coin with tens of millions of app users and a large Arabic-speaking following. Open Network launched on 20 February 2025, but the project still gates who can move coins through its own KYC and wallet-migration process. Listed on OKX, Gate, Bitget and MEXC as real Pi, and on CEX.IO as an IOU that tracks the price but cannot be withdrawn to a Pi wallet. Not on Binance or Bybit, so there is no riyal P2P market. Pi Coin guide explains KYC, the IOU and the scams.

11. Toncoin (TON)

The Telegram-linked blockchain, known to Saudis through the Notcoin and Hamster Kombat tap-to-earn games of 2024. Its practical use is USDT on TON: an official Tether network with low fees, convenient for sending dollars inside Telegram wallets. CEX.IO lists TON, as do Binance, Bybit and OKX on spot; it was not among the visible SAR P2P tabs. Like XRP, TON transfers to exchanges may need a memo. Toncoin guide.

12. Cardano (ADA)

A research-driven proof-of-stake chain with a steady community and broad listings: CEX.IO in five pairs, all the majors, and a SAR P2P tab. Nothing about ADA is Saudi-specific, which is partly why it sits mid-table; the staking question is the same as Ethereum's. Cardano guide.

13. Litecoin (LTC)

Often called the silver to Bitcoin's gold: an older proof-of-work coin with fast, cheap transfers, listed on CEX.IO since the platform's early years and on Rain, where it is one of the three coins (with BTC and ETH) covered by the 2019 Shariyah Review Bureau certificate for Rain's Bahrain entity. It was not among the visible SAR P2P tabs, so riyal buyers usually swap from USDT.

14. Shiba Inu (SHIB)

An ERC-20 meme token with a unit price so low it is quoted in fractions of a halala, and its own layer-2 network, Shibarium. It has a SAR P2P tab and five CEX.IO pairs. Because it lives on Ethereum, withdrawing it to your own wallet costs gas, which can exceed the value of a small position. Same Sharia caution as Dogecoin. Shiba Inu guide.

15. Pepe (PEPE)

A pure meme token on Ethereum with no stated utility, listed on CEX.IO (USD, USDT and USDC pairs) and on the SAR P2P market. It is on the list because people buy it, not because we think they should: it is the most volatile asset here and the one most often promoted by Telegram "signal" groups. If you touch it, treat the amount as money you can lose entirely.

Where Saudis buy them

Three routes cover every coin above. The card route: CEX.IO charges a Saudi Visa, Mastercard or Apple Pay in US dollars (no riyal wallet), with published card fees of 0.49%–4.99% plus a service charge, a 20 USD minimum and a 3,000 USD per-transaction cap after ID verification. Saudi users are served by the group company CEX OVRS LLC in Nevis; the FinCEN and FCA registrations belong to its US and UK sister companies. The riyal route: SAR P2P on Binance or Bybit, paying another user through urpay, STC Pay or a bank transfer, with the exchange holding the coins in escrowEscrowCoins locked by the platform until the buyer's payment is confirmed by the seller.. The licensed-Gulf route: a SAR bank transfer to CoinMENA, which publishes a 0% deposit fee and 0.75% trading, or to Rain, whose Saudi support is not documented on its own site.

Whichever route you use, the coins should not stay on the exchange for long. Every platform on this page can freeze an account, and none answers to a Saudi regulator. Our wallet guide lists mobile and hardware wallets available in the Kingdom, including the Ledger Nano X sold at Jarir.

"Best cryptocurrencies to invest in": the honest answer

The most common Arabic query behind this page is not "which coins are available" but "which are the best to invest in". We will not answer that, and you should distrust any page that does. Nobody at this site is a licensed adviser, no coin here carries investor protection in Saudi Arabia, and the people most eager to name a winner usually hold it already. What a ranking can honestly tell you is structural: the largest coins (USDT, BTC, ETH) have the deepest markets and the most exits; mid-table coins (XRP, BNB, SOL, TRX, ADA) have real networks with real use; the bottom of the table (DOGE, SHIB, PEPE) is driven by attention, and Pi is driven by a community whose coins are still partly locked. Decide your amount as money you could lose without changing your life, buy on a venue you understand, and move holdings to a wallet you control. That is the whole of the advice.

Halal viewpoints in brief

There is no official fatwa on cryptocurrency from the Council of Senior Scholars. Individual Saudi voices have been cautious or prohibitive: Sheikh Al-Manea in 2018, and Sheikh Assim Al-Hakeem of Jeddah in 2017, who said Bitcoin's anonymity and speculation make it impermissible (he has not reversed that view). Outside the Kingdom, Bahrain's Shariyah Review Bureau certified Rain's brokerage for BTC, ETH and LTC in 2019, Bybit's Islamic Account (spot only, since 24 September 2024) is certified by ZICO Shariah, and Mufti Faraz Adam treats Bitcoin as permissible property. The conditions most scholars cite are consistent: no ribaRibaInterest or guaranteed return on money lent; the core prohibition in Islamic finance. (no fixed-yield products), no ghararGhararExcessive uncertainty or gambling-like risk in a contract. or gambling-like speculation, real underlying utility, and spot ownership rather than leveraged contracts. Meme coins fail the utility test for most of them; stablecoins are debated; staking depends on how the reward is structured. Is crypto halal? goes through each coin type with named sources.

Coins to avoid, and the scams that use coin names

Beyond fake coins, the patterns that hurt Saudi buyers most are "doubling" giveaways around Dogecoin pumps, Telegram groups promising fixed monthly returns on "halal" portfolios (riba-shaped and Ponzi-shaped at once), "flash USDT" and wrong-network deposits, fake Pi KYC agents asking for your passphrase, and P2P buyers paying from a third party's bank account so the seller's account is later frozen. Our scams guide covers each one with the warning signs, and the 2018 Standing Committee statement about "illusion and get-rich schemes" remains the official reference point. If a coin on this list is being pushed at you with urgency, that urgency is the signal.

Frequently asked questions

Which cryptocurrency is the most popular in Saudi Arabia?

By what people actually trade, Tether (USDT) comes first: it is the default asset on the SAR P2P market, where riyals change hands for crypto. Bitcoin is the most searched name and the one the 2018 Standing Committee statement mentions by name. Ethereum, XRP, BNB and Solana follow, and Pi Coin has an outsized Arabic-speaking community despite its small market rank.

What are the best cryptocurrencies to invest in from Saudi Arabia?

We do not give investment advice and no page should. What we can say is which coins are easy to buy with a Saudi card or riyals, which are listed on several large exchanges, and which carry extra caveats such as Pi being sold as an IOU or meme coins moving on social-media hype. Use the ranking as a map of availability, then decide your own amount and risk.

Can I buy all 15 coins with Saudi riyals?

Not all. Binance P2P shows SAR tabs for USDT, BTC, ETH, USDC, BNB, ADA, SHIB, DOGE, TRX, SOL and PEPE. XRP, TON and LTC were not among the visible tabs when we checked, and Pi has no P2P market at all. For those you buy with a Visa, Mastercard or Apple Pay in US dollars on CEX.IO, or swap from USDT after a P2P purchase.

Is there an official Saudi cryptocurrency?

No. The Saudi Central Bank works on wholesale central-bank digital currency projects such as Aber (with the UAE, report in 2020) and the BIS mBridge platform (joined June 2024, proof of concept completed May 2025). Nothing retail exists, and tokens called CryptoRiyal, SmartRiyal or a "KSA memecoin" were scams the Ministry of Finance and others warned about.

Is Islamic Coin (ISLM) a good halal alternative for Saudis?

Whatever you think of its Sharia claims, it is hard to buy. On the day we checked, CoinGecko showed ISLM trading only on KoinBX, Indodax and the Osmosis DEX, and it was absent from CEX.IO, Binance, Bybit, OKX and KuCoin. It belongs in a halal discussion as a case study, not on a shopping list for Saudi residents.

Which coins are the cheapest to withdraw to my own wallet?

Coins whose networks charge low fees: USDT on the Tron (TRC-20) or TON network, Tron itself, Solana, Litecoin and Dogecoin. The most expensive moves are ERC-20 tokens on Ethereum (ETH, SHIB, PEPE, ERC-20 USDT) when the network is busy. Exchanges charge a fixed withdrawal fee per coin and network, shown on the withdrawal screen.
