KuCoin in Saudi Arabia: access, funding and KYC

KuCoin does not block Saudi residents, lists far more small altcoins than the Gulf platforms, and has no riyal rail worth relying on. That combination makes it a second exchange for most people here, not a first one.

The question behind most KuCoin searches from Saudi Arabia is simple: will it let me in, and how do I get riyals into it? The answers are yes, and not directly. KuCoin's terms do not name Saudi Arabia among the places it refuses, and it even launched a riyal P2P pair in 2021. But there is no SAR wallet, no bank deposit, no official STC Pay or urpay method, and no evidence on its current pages that the riyal P2P market has any depth. In practice the route is: buy USDT on a platform with a real SAR market, send it to KuCoin, trade there.

This page is written for someone in the Kingdom deciding whether that detour is worth it. We checked KuCoin's Terms of Use, its SAR P2P announcement and the surrounding regulatory position in October 2026 and avoided repeating fee tables or limits we could not verify on KuCoin's own pages.

Short answer: a second exchange, not a first

KuCoin earns its reputation on breadth. It lists a long tail of small and new altcoinsAltcoinAny cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin. Small altcoins trade thinly, move violently and sometimes disappear. that Binance, Bybit and the Gulf exchanges take months to add or never add at all. If you already hold USDT and want exposure to a token nobody else lists, that is the use case. If you are a beginner who wants to turn riyals into Bitcoin for the first time, KuCoin adds a step you do not need: there is no riyal on-ramp of the kind our exchange comparison ranks the top platforms on.

What the restricted list says, and what the entity does not

KuCoin's Terms of Use list the jurisdictions it does not serve. The version published as an announcement names the United States, Singapore, mainland China and Hong Kong, Thailand and countries under Seychelles sanctions. A newer version on the legal page adds Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, the Canadian provinces of Ontario and British Columbia, France, the Netherlands and four Ukrainian regions. Saudi Arabia appears in neither, and nor does any other Gulf state. The list has grown over time, which is worth remembering: a jurisdiction that is open today can be added tomorrow, usually with a notice period to withdraw funds.

What the terms do not do is name a regulator responsible for Saudi customers, because there is none. Saudi Arabia has no licensing regime for crypto exchanges; neither SAMA nor the Capital Market Authority has approved any platform, and the 2018 Standing Committee warning that nobody is licensed to deal in virtual currencies remains the official position. KuCoin serves you from abroad under its own terms, exactly as Binance, Bybit and CEX.IO do. Being allowed to open an account and being protected by a regulator are different things, and in Saudi Arabia you have the first without the second. Our legal guide covers what that means for you.

Funding a KuCoin account without riyal rails

Three routes exist, and only one of them is reliable. The first is a crypto deposit: buy USDTStablecoinA token designed to hold a fixed value, usually 1 US dollar. USDT (Tether) is the one Saudi P2P markets price in riyals. somewhere that takes riyals, then send it to your KuCoin deposit address. The cheapest network for USDT is TRC-20TRC-20The USDT version that runs on the Tron network. Transfers cost a fraction of a dollar and settle in about a minute; the address starts with T.; make sure the network you pick on the sending side matches the one you select on KuCoin, because a mismatch is the single most common way people lose a deposit. Where to buy the USDT: Binance, whose SAR P2P market lists urpay and Liv. KSA as official methods, or Bybit, where test reports list Al Rajhi, SNB, Alinma and STC Pay transfers. Our STC Pay guide and P2P guide walk through the purchase itself.

The second route is a card purchase through one of the third-party processors inside the KuCoin app. KuCoin does not document whether Saudi-issued cards are accepted. On other exchanges, testers found two processors rejected a mada debit card while Visa or Mastercard credit cards and Apple Pay went through, with a 2–4% processor charge on top. The pattern will probably repeat on KuCoin, but nobody has confirmed it, so budget for a decline. The third route is the riyal P2P pair, which deserves its own section.

Simplest first purchase: a card in USDBuy BTC or USDT with a Saudi Visa, Mastercard or Apple Pay on a card-first platform, then send USDT to KuCoin if you still want the altcoins.

The SAR/USDT P2P market KuCoin launched in 2021

On 15 July 2021 KuCoin announced that the SAR/USDT option was available in its P2P Fiat Trade market, with bank transfer as the payment method and more to come. That is a primary source and it matters: KuCoin did build a riyal rail. What we could not establish from KuCoin's current pages is whether that market has sellers, what premium they charge over the 3.75 peg, or whether STC Pay or urpay were ever added. Compare Binance, which publishes urpay and Liv. KSA as official SAR methods and charges a flat 0.05 USDT taker fee per order, or Bybit, where several Saudi banks appear in test reports.

If you open the KuCoin P2P tab and see a handful of ads with wide prices, you are looking at a thin market, and a thin P2PP2PPeer-to-peer: you buy from another person on the exchange, which holds the coins in escrow until the seller confirms your bank transfer. market is where scams concentrate: sellers who ask you to pay outside the escrow, or who demand payment from a third party's account. Pay only from a bank account in your own name, only inside the escrow flow, and never release early. Our P2P guide lists the standard checks.

Altcoins: the reason to bother, and what is missing

KuCoin's catalogue is the draw. It is one of the exchanges traders check first for new listings and small-cap tokens, and it carries the mainstream coins Saudi searchers care about: BTC, ETH, USDT, USDC, XRP, SOL, BNB, DOGE, TON, TRX, SHIB and ADA. What it does not carry is Pi. Pi Network's token is listed on OKX, Gate, Bitget and MEXC, and traded as an IOU on CEX.IO, but not on KuCoin, Binance or Bybit. Since Pi drives a large share of Saudi crypto searches, that absence alone rules KuCoin out for a lot of readers; the Pi Coin guide lists the platforms that do have it.

Small altcoins come with a cost beginners underestimate. Thin order books mean slippageSlippageThe difference between the price you expected and the price your order actually filled at, caused by a thin order book. on even modest market orders, listings can be delisted with short notice, and a token that trades only on one exchange is a token you may struggle to sell. Use limit orders, keep positions small, and read our scams guide before buying anything promoted in a Telegram group.

KYC and security for a Saudi account

KuCoin once allowed meaningful activity without identity checks; it no longer does. Expect KYCKYCKnow your customer: the identity check (ID document plus selfie) an exchange runs before it lets you deposit, trade and withdraw in full. with a passport or national ID and a selfie before deposits and withdrawals are fully open. Whether an Iqama on its own passes KuCoin's checks is not documented; expats should start with the passport and keep the Iqama as proof of address if asked. The Iqama KYC guide covers name-spelling mismatches, the most common rejection reason across exchanges.

Person signing identity documents at a desk, representing the KYC verification step on a crypto exchange
KYC is mandatory on KuCoin. Match the Latin spelling of your name to your bank account exactly; P2P sellers and compliance teams both check it.

Security habits matter more on an offshore exchange than on a bank. Enable two-factor authentication with an app, not SMS; set a withdrawal address whitelist; and move long-term holdings to a wallet you control. No exchange, KuCoin included, is insured for Saudi customers, and if a jurisdiction is added to the restricted list you want your coins already out.

KuCoin from Saudi Arabia, step by step

  1. Register and secure the account

Sign up on kucoin.com with an email you control. Turn on app-based two-factor authentication and an anti-phishing code before you deposit.

  2. Complete identity verification

Upload a passport or national ID and take the selfie. Use the same Latin spelling of your name that appears on your Saudi bank account.

  3. Buy USDT where riyals work

On Binance or Bybit SAR P2P, pay a seller from your own Al Rajhi, SNB, Alinma or STC Pay account and wait for escrow release.

  4. Send USDT to KuCoin over TRC-20

Copy the KuCoin deposit address for USDT on the Tron network, send a small test amount first, then the balance.

  5. Trade with limit orders

Small altcoins slip on market orders. Set a price and let the order fill.

  6. Withdraw what you hold

Keep only active positions on the exchange. Move holdings to a hardware or mobile wallet.

Each step carries risk: P2P fraud, a wrong network on the transfer, or a listing that collapses. Nothing here is a recommendation to buy a particular token, and no route is risk-free.

What stands out
  • Saudi Arabia not named on either version of KuCoin's restricted-jurisdiction list
  • SAR/USDT P2P pair announced on 15 July 2021 with bank transfer (primary source)
  • Lists a long tail of small altcoins that Gulf platforms and Binance add late or never
  • Carries the mainstream coins Saudi searchers want: BTC, ETH, USDT, XRP, SOL, DOGE, TON, TRX
  • Crypto deposits via TRC-20 USDT work from any SAR P2P purchase
What is missing
  • No Saudi licence (like every exchange) and no regulator named for Saudi customers
  • No riyal wallet or bank deposit; STC Pay, urpay and mada not documented as payment methods
  • Depth of the SAR P2P market and acceptance of Saudi cards are unverified on KuCoin's pages
  • Pi Coin not listed, unlike OKX, Bitget, Gate, MEXC and CEX.IO
  • Restricted list has grown over the years; access can change with notice

Verdict

6.8/10
Our score: Worth a second account for altcoins; not a riyal on-ramp

KuCoin is open to Saudi residents and strong on listings, but every riyal has to arrive as USDT bought somewhere else. The 2021 SAR P2P pair is real; its current depth is not documented. Use it after you have a working SAR route on Binance, Bybit or a card-first platform, and only for the coins you cannot get there.

For a first exchange with a riyal rail on an official page, read the CoinMENA review; for the fastest card purchase in USD, the CEX.IO review. The USDT guide explains the networks you will use to move money between all of them.

Frequently asked questions

Is KuCoin available in Saudi Arabia?

Saudi Arabia is not named on KuCoin's restricted-jurisdiction list. The Terms of Use exclude the United States, Singapore, mainland China and Hong Kong, Thailand and sanctioned countries, and a newer version adds Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Ontario and British Columbia, France, the Netherlands and four Ukrainian regions. Not being excluded is not the same as being authorised: KuCoin holds no Saudi licence and does not say it serves Saudi residents.

Can I deposit Saudi riyals on KuCoin?

There is no SAR wallet or bank deposit. KuCoin announced a SAR/USDT pair in its P2P Fiat Trade market on 15 July 2021 with bank transfer as the payment method; whether that market has active sellers today could not be confirmed on KuCoin's current pages. Most Saudi users fund KuCoin with USDT bought on a SAR P2P market elsewhere and sent over the TRC-20 network.

Does KuCoin accept Saudi cards or Apple Pay?

KuCoin's app offers third-party card processors in many markets, but acceptance of a Saudi-issued card is not documented. Test reports on other exchanges show mada debit cards are often declined by processors while Visa or Mastercard credit cards and Apple Pay go through more reliably. Treat a card purchase as a maybe, not a plan.

Is KuCoin licensed in Saudi Arabia?

No. No cryptocurrency exchange holds a Saudi licence, because SAMA and the Capital Market Authority have no licensing regime for crypto trading. The 2018 Standing Committee statement that virtual currencies are not approved and nobody is licensed to deal in them still stands. KuCoin's terms name no Saudi regulator.

Do I need KYC on KuCoin?

Yes. Identity verification is required for full access to deposits, trading and withdrawals, and KuCoin's limits for unverified accounts have tightened over the years. Expect to upload a passport or national ID and take a selfie. Whether an Iqama alone is accepted is not documented; expats should verify with their passport.

Can I buy Pi Coin on KuCoin?

No. Pi is listed on OKX, Gate, Bitget and MEXC, and as an IOU on CEX.IO, but not on KuCoin, Binance or Bybit. If Pi is the reason you are looking at KuCoin, see our Pi Coin guide for the platforms that actually list it.
